So I am sitting in an airport in Charlotte...

So here i am en route to Montego Bay Jamaica. I am sitting next to the funniest queen in the world. Charles, but everyone knows him as chuck. Been gay his whole life and loves attention. God forbid you walk into a room and steal attention from this woman...you will get her in a tissy. I am on my way to doing two back to backs, after this, i head to the Bahama's for a week and then off for the month of March. The program in San Diego was a success and I can say i am blessed because of the friends i have in this life. This program in Jamaica will be a bit more challenging. The program requires a lot of on site planning, and many hours of hard work. I will be there with a decent staff and that will be enlightening. Although, i am not sure what Chucks role will be...queen of the island perhaps. Life is great and you have to enjoy every ounce of it. The program i just worked was a dream, fantastic client, great hours and staff is never an after thought. My company is progress...

The life of a TD/PM.

Okay so you may ask what is a TD/PM. I am referring to Travel Director/Project Manager. I actually like to call them traveling project manager's or TPM. Our life is very sporatic and love lives only occur on the road with the people we meet. It is impossible to be in a relationship with the work we do. Many of us are gone 250 to 300 days per year and with that type of schedule, there is little room for romance. Sometimes we do the unthinkable for peanuts. We rise before most of the world has gone to sleep, we make sure that registration packets are stuffed, collateral is colated and participants of any event are having a great time, and if they aren't, how we can make their lives better. Sometimes we don't sleep much and we wake up at the sound of nextels not really going off. We take the job home with us as we freak out everytime a nextel goes off. Our naps, if ever, are short and only about 15 minutes. We try to push the limits sometimes and drink until 2 in the ...

Update: Working in Chicago

So i haven't been able to post anything on here in a week because I have been working and don't have a laptop for the road. I have been working at the palmer house hilton. Nice, older property here in Chicago. Staff has been as accomodating as possible, however, the service is a bit slower than we would like to see. I was on the meetings team and was responsisble for getting all the collateral materials delivered, making sure we had proper signage, ensuring the rooms are the right temperature and just sort of being there for the meetings rooms if they needed anything. This meeting was extremely successful and there were no real issues of concern. They are doing a complete renovation of the property and if you are thinking of doing an event here, you may want to reconsider until after 2008 is past. Worked with great staff and just had a good time. The meeting planner on this was extremely organized and it shows...less time worked. 10 hour days max...unlike 14-16 hour days...

Washington DC-Saturday & Sunday 4th & 5th

Image
Today was much of the same. Prepping for the big meeting. I am on the meetings team. We make sure the rooms are ready and set according to specs. If there are any handouts, we make sure to place them on the seats before each meeting. Today was just a walk around to make sure we knew where the rooms are. It is kind of cool to be on these meetings because you meet so many interesting people. The staff is cool too because you begin to develop bonds with everyone. It is much like a family and that is one reason I really like what i do. I have attached some pics

Day 1-San Diego flying to Washington DC

Well I woke up at 3:47 this morning thanks to my awesome cat pepper. She knew I had to be up early and as I arose, she chirped happiness running to the kitchen before me, knowing that I was going to be filling up her bowl. I loaded up my suitcase only to find both precious and tigher sad to see me go. I can tell when they are sad because they sit in whatever bag I am taking. It was cute and I will post some pics up here tonight. I am in cincinatti right now. The flight here was uneventful. I am soon to board my flight to DC. In reading my program notes, I noticed that Sir Richard Branson is going to be the guest speaker.... Holy Crapola...He is one of the men I want to meet before I die. As luck has it, I will be on the meetings team and will (cross my fingers) be able to sit in the room with him while he speaks. That would be awesome. I am going to be staying at the henley park hotel in DC. You can look it up on line. It is cool but also a boutique hotel. I hate boutique hotels when I...
